Reading Accessibility

The OpenDyslexic font, warm reading themes, larger text and line spacing, applied across every reader in Mote for iOS.

What this feature does:

Reading Accessibility covers how text looks in Mote for iOS. A student can switch to the OpenDyslexic font, choose a warm reading theme, increase the text size, and open up line spacing. The settings apply across every reader in the app, so a student sets their preferences once and gets them everywhere, alongside read-along highlighting.

Why it matters:

  • Typeface, color and spacing change how readable a page is for students with dyslexia and visual stress
  • Settings are shared across every reader, so a student is not resetting preferences item by item
  • Puts the choice with the student, who knows what they can actually read

MTSS:

  • Tier 1: Display preferences available to every student
  • Tier 2/3: Specific support for students with dyslexia or visual processing needs

UDL Principles:

  • Multiple means of representation: the student controls how text is displayed

  2. Tap the appearance control in the reader.
  3. Choose your theme, font (including OpenDyslexic), text size and line spacing.
  4. Close the panel; the settings apply to every reader.
