Focus Mode

What this feature does:

Focus Mode strips away unnecessary elements from webpages, keeping only the main content visible. When you see the green dot on the mode selector, Focus Mode is available for that page — one click transforms cluttered articles into clean, distraction-free reading experiences.

Why it matters:

  • Reduces cognitive load for students with ADHD, sensory processing differences, or visual processing challenges by removing competing stimuli
  • Enables independent reading by eliminating navigation confusion caused by sidebars, ads, and unrelated content
  • Supports sustained attention and comprehension by keeping students anchored to the task at hand
  • Builds reading stamina for students who fatigue quickly when pages feel overwhelming

MTSS:

  • Tier 1: Universal access to cleaner reading environments for all students
  • Tier 2/3: Targeted support for students with attention regulation or sensory needs

UDL Principles:

  • Multiple means of engagement: minimizes distractions that derail focus
  • Reduces barriers for students who struggle to filter relevant from irrelevant information

Bonus Points:

Ideal for research tasks, independent reading assignments, and text-heavy assessments. Pairs well with Select Area to Read and Highlighter for scaffolded close reading. Works on most article-style webpages — such as news sites, blogs, educational resources.
